POSTGRADUATE STUDENTSHIPS
The Centre for Food Chain Research at Imperial College London (Wye Campus) has two exciting and innovative postgraduate studentship for the coming academic year, beginning October 2003.
The first studentship is funded by one of the UK’s leading food retailers and will involve the analysis of purchasing and consumption behaviour with respect to fruit and vegetables. The successful candidate will have an unprecedented opportunity to gain experience of the retail marketing and merchandising of fresh produce and the role of consumer research therein, conducting research at store level that will feed directly into the strategic and tactical planning processes of the sponsoring retailer and their supply base.
Candidates should possess a first degree (minimum upper second class honours) in consumer behaviour, marketing research or marketing (with a strong market research component) or comparable postgraduate qualification and must have excellent analytical and communication skills. Practical experience in conducting qualitative and/or quantitative consumer research, obtained through coursework or a business placement, and a working knowledge of SPSS will be a distinct advantage.
The studentship includes full registration fees for EU students (*2,800), a bursary of *8,000 per annum and a budget for conducting primary research. Registration is for two years (MPhil) in the first instance, with funding for a third year (PhD) subject to satisfactory progress.
The second studentship is funded by the International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED) in support of projects on supermarkets and sustainability ([url]www.racetothetop.org[/url]) and restructuring of agri-food chains in developing countries. This study will focus on the development and application of methodologies that assess fairness and justice within supply chains between multiple retailers and primary producers, both in the UK and in developing countries.
