Dear International Students
I'm writing to you to warn you of a change in British Home Office policy. As
of 1 August 2003, there will be a charge for applications for extension of
leave to remain (visa extensions). The fee is £155 for applications made by
post and £250 for those made in person.
This policy was only revealed on 10 July 2003, without prior warning. As such,
information about the charges is not present in any of the literature you have
received from UMIST.
You are advised to apply for Entry Clearance before leaving your home country,
even if this is not actually required for your entry to the UK. If you're
lucky, it may be that the Entry Clearance Officer will give you a long enough
visa to complete your course.
However, if this is not the case, it is very likely that you will need to pay
this fee at some point during your studies. You are strongly advised to
account for this in your financial planning. |
